Sappho's Beautiful Light in the Darkness
Random Sappho Quote:
"the most beautiful things on this black earth, but I say it is whatever you love” (31).
This rings very true to me. And it should to you also. The idea of the black earth is at once sad and true. Beautifully true I would argue. Obviously, Earth itself isn’t black but the darkness that comes with each person’s life is certainly not a ray of sunshine or hope. From the moment you are born you have a little passenger following you, named Death, and that passenger can only handle the ride for so long before he has to take over the driving. In this sense, there are over 6 billion little dark spots of the earth right now.
What could be beautiful when your perspective is darkness? Whatever you love. It really is that simple. I’m not arguing for an entire planet of people to see the darkness of life, I’m just saying that there are some very dark moments out there. For everyone. And nobody can escape them forever. One thing we can do is love. Whatever we love we can surround ourselves with. Whoever we love we can remain close to or in contact with. Love is the light in the darkness. We have this natural darkness and it is important to keep in mind the natural light as well.
So remember: Love.
